"I know it’s cliche to say but CrossFit has literally changed my life. When I started my membership just over 3 years ago I was in a tough spot. I had just started graduate school and had recently been going through a pretty rough breakup. My Mom (who is still an active member at Impervious as well) had been pushing me to try it for months! After listening to her go on and on about how much she had fallen in love with it, I finally decided to give it a try.
There was a two-for-one Groupon deal running to join a fundamentals class, so I asked my brother to join me. Let’s just say the rest is history. I was hooked after the first class! Most of my current closest friends are people I’ve met at Impervious. There’s just something about pushing through the workouts together that draws you closer to one another. Also, being held accountable by my teammates when I don’t show up counts for a lot. After one or two “where the hell were you?” comments, the guilt really starts to set in. Your team relies on you to push them just as much as they push you.
Needless to say, because of this push and camaraderie, I’m stronger than I’ve ever been. Not only have I become stronger physically, but also mentally. My whole lifestyle has changed, including my diet. I’ll never forget walking into my first fundamentals class and seeing two of our original female members working out and saying to myself “That’s what I want to look like,” and I was willing to learn and do whatever it took to get there. Now, three years later I’ve had other members, both new and old, complimenting me in the same way. I NEVER thought of myself as someone other people would look up to in that way, or ask me for advice. I am truly humbled by every single compliment I’ve received.
I’m extremely proud of the members who influenced my diet change. I’m humbled as well by how many members have told me that I’ve influenced their diet changes. We only get one shot on this Earth, and I think it’s extremely important to live the most fulfilling life you possibly can during that time. Fitness and nutrition NEED to be a huge part of that, and anything I can do to influence that or at least be a part of it, both in other peoples lives as well as my own, I’m all for it
I wouldn’t be where I am today without my Impervious family. I look forward to going to class no matter what time of day it is because I know that no matter what, I will be surrounded by like-minded people who truly value taking care of themselves. We are truly a family. Every time I leave Impervious I feel like I’ve accomplished something great for myself and have held my family accountable for accomplishing something for themselves as well. I want my teammates to show up just as much as they want me to.
These past three years have been some of the most fun and challenging times of my life and I owe a very large majority of that to Crossfit Impervious. I hope to see many more years with our family!"
